light and fire

topic posted Thu, March 11, 2004 - 1:44 PM by  Rod
I was thinking about the nature of light within us- how the power of people coming from that place is needed more than ever. It is needed to illuminate so many fearful peoples self righteous ignorance(gay marriage, war). Such interesting times we are in!
But then I was thinking about the fire of activism and the place that comes from inside of me. Is it borne from anger? I've concluded that fire is just one of the most intense, change making form of light...

Just sharing where my brain is going!

i want to hear more about this, because lately i have found myself shying away from activism because so much of the 'hard core' activists seem motivated only by anger and hatred.

it seems like right action comes from self-awareness and a loving attitude.

fire is a transformative light, and i think that when it is self-contained, (and so the metaphor of the vessel and the crucible become apt) and used to transform ourselves we do so much more effective good for the world than letting that fire out as 'raw energy.'

    just some off-the-cuff thought.
    peace.

As I understand light (barely) it is an energy with a higher vibration than myself. I believe it responds to our thoughts. For example, if I imagine the earth surrounded with white light and then intensify that light 100fold, I know it does that. I have been a reiki therapist for many years now and occasionally I can see the light that flows out of my hands. Its pretty interesting. I dont know if fire vibrates that high. As far as the highest, love seems to be the upper boundry we, as humans, have. Perhaps its that way for lightbeings too.

you can match the energy of fire...
I met a man once up in the high desert who would pick up burning coals and dance with them, bare hands, no burns, flame and all. But the see'er and the do'er have to have the same energy going or he won't be able to do it. takes concentration I am no longer as capable of:P

I've only seen that light in my dreams, flowing out through my hands, my tummy, and everyone else.
        beautiful.

It's interesting that you say that - I've never been what most people would consider an "activist" for that very reason. Portland is a very activist-oriented city, and the police have a rather trigger-happy reputation because they tend to only see the ignorance. Frequently, "professional protesters" become involved and wreak havoc, and I think it's scaring a lot of community builders away. Residents have concerns, and law enforcement has concerns. I think that direct confrontation in a violent, accusoritory manner only causes the "opposition" to reaffirm their view that they need to clamp down on us. Innocent people then get caught in the cross-fire. ELF is a particular violator and their way is *not* my way. Setting fire to homes and other property items only does harm, since the items are covered by insurance anyways and nobody thinks "Gee, my wood-structure house was torched. Maybe I should build an earth-friendly straw bale house instead!" I remember one particular instance where a local mink farm was raided and all the minks set loose (I don't remember what group did it exactly). All that was accomplished in the end was more minks were killed in the fire that was started than survived. My marine biology prof told us a story about a mama and baby sperm whale that beached along the coast. Mama was dead, but the baby wasn't. Scientists (including my prof) arrived to rescue the poor thing and attempt to rehabilitate it at a nearby facility, but GreenPeace showed up and insisted on shoving the baby back into the ocean to prevent its "capture". The last thing my prof saw was the baby rounding the nearby spit and it was never seen again. There was no way it could have survived on its own at its age.

Don't get me wrong - I want the world to be a better place just as much as anyone else does. I wholeheartedly agree with Tenorune...self-awareness and love are the only way to change the world, and folks need to educate themselves in the best way to do that depending on the situation. Protesting in ignorance only pisses people off.

Sorry 'bout the soapbox...I'm going to go do my part and clean my apartment now with a huge box of baking soda and jug of vinegar. ;)

      love and light,

      Robyn
